Security Supervision (SIA)
LEVEL 2: National Certificate for Door supervision with PI (SIA-Approved course)
In order to obtain an SIA licence you will need to show that you are trained to the right level and you have relevant qualifications. To get a door supervision licence you will need to attend a four part training course and pass four exams. The course will be delivered in 4 days (Minimum 30 hours class is required by SIA for this course- without completion of 30 hours your certificate may be invalidated). Unit 1: Working within the Private Security Industry
Chapter 1: Know the main characteristics of the Private Security Industry
Chapter 2: Understand legislation as it applies to the individual in carrying out a licensable activity
Chapter 3: Understand the importance of safe working practices to comply with legal requirements
Chapter 4: Understand fire procedures in the workplace
Chapter 5: Understand emergencies and the importance of emergency procedures
Chapter 6: Understand the importance of communication skills and customer care
Unit 2: Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry
Chapter 1: Understand the role and objectives of a door supervisor
Chapter 2: Understand civil and criminal law relevant to a door supervisor
Chapter 3: Understand searching relevant to a door supervisor
Chapter 4: Understand powers of arrest relevant to a door supervisor
Chapter 5: Understand drug-misuse issues and procedures relevant to the role of a door supervisor
Chapter 6: Understand incident recording and crime scene preservation relevant to the role of a door supervisor
Chapter 7: Understand licensing law and social responsibility relevant to the role of a door supervisor
Chapter 8: Understand emergency procedures which should be followed by a door supervisor
Chapter 9: Understand how a door supervisor can help to keep vulnerable people safe
Chapter 10: Understand queue management and venue capacity responsibilities relevant to a door supervisor
Unit 3: Conflict Management within the Private Security Industry
Chapter 1: Understand the principles of conflict management appropriate to their role
Chapter 2: Understand how to recognise, assess and reduce risk in conflict situations
Chapter 3: Understand how to communicate in emotive situations to de-escalate conflict
Chapter 4: Understand how to develop and use problem solving strategies for resolving conflict
Chapter 5: Understand good practice to follow after conflict situations
Unit 4: Physical Intervention Skills within the Private Security Industry
Chapter 1: Understand physical interventions and the implications of their use
Chapter 2: Understand how to reduce the risk of harm when physical intervention skills are used
Chapter 3: Be able to use non-aggressive physical skills to protect yourself and others
Chapter 4: Be able to use non-pain related standing, holding and escorting techniques, including non-restrictive and restrictive skills
Chapter 5: Understand good practice to follow after physical interventions
How long is the training course?
It has been designed to be completed in 4 Days (although longer tuition or self-study options may be available).
Course assessment: Assessment method: Multiple choice examination & Observation.

Level 2 Award for Upskilling Door Supervisors (SIA-Approved Course)
Upskillings qualification that has been developed to meet the mandatory SIA top up training requirement for Door Supervisors who undertook their training prior to June 2010. The qualification meets the SIA’s mandatory top-up requirements and appropriately qualified learners who complete the qualification will be eligible to apply to renew their SIA Door Supervisors licence.
